We have released “DF BIRD”, an SfM software that generates orthophotos and 3D data from drone imagery

DeepForest Technologies Co, Ltd. (CEO: Masanori Onishi) released “DF BIRD (Building Images for Reconstructing Digital-twins)” which generate orthophotos and DSM from drone imagery.

About DF BIRD

DF BIRD is a Windows desktop application equipped with SfM (Structure from Motion) functionality to reconstruct 3D structures from multiple images. It uses the open-source OpenDroneMap (ODM) engine, customized specifically for forest applications.

Until now, users of DeepForest’s forest analysis software “DF Scanner” needed to purchase an additional SfM software in order to generate orthophotos. With the release of DF BIRD, however, any user with a camera drone can now carry out forest analysis using only DeepForest’s products—no extra software required.

Features of DF BIRD

DF BIRD automatically generates orthophotos and DSMs (Digital Surface Models) at a quality optimized for forest analysis. Unlike many other SfM software tools that require complex configurations, DF BIRD minimizes settings to provide a simple, user-friendly experience for anyone.

In the Orthophoto/DSM generation menu, users simply select the source images and the output directory, then run the process to obtain orthophotos and DSMs. For advanced use, the detailed settings allow adjustments such as quality and accuracy, and specifying output resolution.

DF BIRD also includes a built-in viewer, allowing users to check the generated images directly within the software.
In addition, it features area and distance measurement tools, enabling it to serve as a simple measurement utility right out of the box

・A license is required to use DF BIRD.
・A DF BIRD license is included free of charge with any DF Scanner license.
・DF BIRD also offers a two-week free trial, available from the link below.
